Honduras Planning to Acquire Advanced Ukrainian Drones to Tackle Drug Trade, Organized Crime: Pres. Nasry Asfura
New Delhi, June 23, 2026 [VoM News]: To strengthen border security and support operations against organized drug trafficking and crime, Honduras President Nasry Asfura has said that the country is planning to acquire drones from Ukraine.
The reports came following President Asfura’s recent visit to Kyiv, where he held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Reports say that the meeting remained productive, as Ukraine offered military technology, particularly drone systems, to Honduras as part of efforts to expand security cooperation between the two countries.
President Nasry Asfura, while speaking at a gathering of the Organization of American States in Panama City, stated that the drones would be used to improve border surveillance and combat organized crime through advanced technology.
He further added that the equipment could also have applications in the agricultural sector.

As Honduras continues to grapple with violence linked to drug trafficking networks, criminal gangs, and organized crime groups, the purchase of advanced drones could prove helpful in tackling crime through enhanced surveillance and monitoring. Other challenges include narcotics trafficking routes and territorial disputes.
In May, at least 19 people were killed in a rural community in northern Honduras amid ongoing clashes involving armed groups, while five police officers were killed near the Guatemalan border in an attack blamed on suspected drug traffickers.
It will be interesting to see whether the purchase of advanced surveillance systems can help make Honduras safer and more secure. The acquisition could also further strengthen Ukraine’s position as a developing global leader in warfare technology and unmanned systems.
