
Iran To Set Up Strait of Hormuz “Telephone Hotline” Direct With United States
Tehran, June 23, 2026 [VoM News]: With a way forward to improve the shipping flux, Iran have agreed to establish a direct communication mechanism likely a “telephone hotline,” with the United States to help the vessels transiting the strategically important global energy route Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf had stated the agreement was reached during recent negotiations in Switzerland.
The agreement is aimed to reduce the tensions and improving maritime security in the region.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, while interacting with Iranian media said that Iran and the United States had agreed to create coordination mechanisms, including a hotline and a dedicated communication centre, to address any misunderstandings or operational issues involving ships passing through the strait.
Ghalibaf added the new system is intended to ensure the highest level of maritime safety and facilitate, assist the uninterrupted traffic through one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes.
