Mitchell Starc Reaches 650 Wickets Milestone in International Cricket

Australian pace bowler Mitchell Starc achieved a remarkable milestone by securing his 650th wicket in international cricket during the enthralling second Test against Pakistan at the revered Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

The 33-year-old veteran, initially wicketless in the first innings, displayed sheer dominance in the second innings, claiming impressive figures of 4/55 in 13.2 overs, significantly obstructing Pakistan’s pursuit of a daunting 317-run target.

Starc’s illustrious international career spans 263 matches, where he has amassed 651 wickets at an outstanding average of 25.35, including notable figures of 6/28.

His exceptional record boasts 23 five-wicket hauls and two ten-wicket hauls across various formats.

As Australia’s fourth-highest wicket-taker of all time, he trails behind the legendary spinner Shane Warne, who holds the record with 1,001 wickets.

The accomplished pacer’s Test performance remains noteworthy, clinching 342 wickets in 84 matches at an average of 27.53. Among these, Starc has notched up 14 five-wicket hauls and two ten-wicket hauls, placing him fifth in the list of highest Test wicket-takers, with Warne reigning at the top with 708 wickets.

Starc’s prowess extends to One Day Internationals (ODIs), where he has claimed 236 wickets in 121 matches at an impressive average of 22.96, including nine five-wicket hauls. Despite being the fifth-highest wicket-taker for Australia in ODIs, he trails behind the likes of Glenn McGrath, who sits atop with 380 wickets.

In the recently concluded Test, Australia managed to secure victory after posting 318 runs in the first innings, securing a 54-run lead over Pakistan. Despite formidable knocks from the opposition, including a resilient chase by Pakistan in the second innings, Australia triumphed by 79 runs, courtesy of another five-wicket haul by Pat Cummins, earning him the ‘Player of the Match’ award. With this victory, Australia sealed the series 2-0 with one game remaining.
