Pakistan Struggles Despite Stellar Performances: Trailing Australia by 124 Runs
Pakistan faced a challenging day two at the Melbourne Cricket Ground during the second Test against Australia. Despite a strong start and notable contributions from Abdullah Shafique and skipper Shan Masood, Pakistan ended the day at 194/6, trailing by 124 runs.
Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq initiated Pakistan’s innings steadily, but Imam’s dismissal for 10 gave way to Masood’s arrival. The partnership between Masood and Shafique appeared promising, with Shafique securing a commendable 62 before Cummins’ caught-and-bowled dismissal. Subsequently, key wickets fell, including Azam’s departure for one run, leaving Pakistan at 170/6.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan’s bowlers displayed strength, bundling Australia out for 318 in the first session. Aamer Jamal’s exceptional performance, claiming three wickets, spearheaded the bowling attack alongside Hasan Ali, Mir Hamza, and Shaheen Afridi’s contributions.
Australia had a solid start with a 90-run opening stand between Warner and Khawaja, followed by Labuschagne’s half-century and Marsh’s significant contribution of 41 runs. However, Australia’s batting line-up eventually succumbed to Pakistan’s bowling attack.
Despite Pakistan’s successful bowling performance, their batting struggles continued on day two. Masood and Shafique’s promising starts couldn’t sustain the innings, with wickets falling at crucial moments. However, Rizwan’s aggressive play ensured Pakistan ended the day at 194/6.
With the game finely poised, Pakistan will aim to narrow the lead and build a competitive total in their first innings to challenge Australia’s advantage in the ongoing Test match.
