The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has set forth a three-day ultimatum for Pakistani authorities following a police crackdown on the ‘Baloch Genocide’ march in Islamabad, resulting in the arrest of over 300 demonstrators, as reported by The Balochistan Post.

The committee demanded the immediate release of all detained protestors and the dismissal of charges against them, threatening ‘harsh steps’ if their demands are not met.

Expressing deep concern over the detained individuals’ well-being, the BYC’s statement, posted on X (formerly Twitter), contradicted reports suggesting the release of 167 Baloch students and activists, stating their release had been systematically delayed despite initial bail.

Political activist Mahrang Baloch echoed worries about the protests, indicating that the status of over 100 students among the 250 arrested remains uncertain.

Baloch emphasized that if the students aren’t released and charges against peaceful protestors aren’t withdrawn, the long march would escalate, holding the state accountable for consequences.

The BYC proposed a comprehensive charter of demands, including calls for a UN-led fact-finding mission in Balochistan, the return of missing Baloch individuals, acknowledgment from the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) regarding staged killings, and the dismantling of alleged state-sponsored ‘death squads’ in the region.

Subsequent to the Islamabad crackdown, protests have erupted across Balochistan and Baloch-populated areas, with significant demonstrations in Quetta, Hub, Kalat, and Dera Gazi Khan. Calls for boycotting upcoming elections and parliamentary politics emerged in Turbat, while widespread protests in Khuzdar, Panjgur, Gwadar, and other cities underscore the gravity of the situation.

Baloch communities in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, and various cities have also organized protests in solidarity.
