    A senior police official disclosed the arrest of five individuals from a scrap shop in Meherpur Botertol area, seizing over 300 grams of heroin on Saturday.

    The arrested persons included Amaj Hussain Barbhuyia (30), the shop owner, his associate Mostak Ahmed (25), Rajan Ahmed (21), Chumki Begum Mazumdar, and Mokbul Alam Laskar (29).

    Cachar district’s Superintendent of Police (SP), Numal Mahatta, reported the recovery of 306.51 grams of heroin from nine soap cases found in possession of the accused.

    The SP elaborated on the operation, stating, “Based on reliable information about a drug consignment delivery at Amaj Hussain Barbhuiya’s scrap shop in Meherpur Botertol area, a raid was conducted on Friday.”

    The shop owner and his associate, Mostak Ahmed, were apprehended and interrogated. During questioning, they disclosed the intended delivery of the drug consignment to their shop.

    Subsequently, the police set up a trap, leading to the arrest of Rajan Ahmed and Chumki Begum, who arrived on a motorcycle to deliver the narcotics.

    Authorities are proceeding with legal actions against the apprehended individuals as part of the ongoing investigation.
