The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 anticipates a kick-off between March 22 and the end of May, but its schedule hinges on India’s impending general elections. ESPNcricinfo reports that IPL informed franchises of a tentative schedule awaiting formal poll date declarations.

Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena is set to host the groundbreaking overseas IPL 2024 auction on Tuesday, marking a first in IPL history. A total of 77 slots are up for grabs, with 30 spots designated for international players. Notably, 23 players have pegged their reserve price at a staggering INR 2 crore.

Ahead of the auction, IPL revealed insights about player availability for the upcoming season. A substantial cohort of 333 cricketers is slated for the bidding war. However, prospective buyers eyeing Australian speedster Josh Hazlewood should note his probable unavailability until the first week of May due to an imminent family addition.

Some surprises marked the prelude to the auction, as England’s rising star Rehan Ahmed abruptly withdrew despite listing a base price of INR 50 lakh. Nevertheless, a constellation of top-tier English players such as Harry Brook, Phil Salt, Chris Woakes, and Adil Rashid have entered the fray.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has pledged the availability of its key white-ball players throughout IPL 2024, including notable names released by various franchises. However, Bangladesh’s Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam opted out due to national team commitments against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in March and April.

The ten IPL franchises finalized their retained and released players’ list by November 15. Gujarat Titans, the reigning 2022 champions, boast the largest purse of Rs 38.15 crore, followed closely by Sunrisers Hyderabad with Rs 34 crore.

As the cricketing world eagerly awaits the IPL 2024 schedule, all eyes are on the impending general election announcement that will determine the tournament’s timeline.
