NCW Vows Zero Tolerance for Belagavi Incident, BJP Protests in Bengaluru
Delina Khongdup, a member of the National Commission for Women (NCW), asserted a resolute stance against the appalling Belagavi incident, stressing the imperative need for a mindset shift to prevent the recurrence of such crimes nationwide.
Expressing unwavering commitment to women’s rights, Khongdup stated, “Our first and foremost priority is to protect women’s rights, and we will not tolerate this type of crime.” She urged citizens to proactively alter their mindsets, preventing such incidents from happening again in any part of the country.

In light of the distressing episode where a 42-year-old woman was allegedly stripped, paraded naked, and assaulted in Vantamuri village of Belagavi district after her son eloped, members of the BJP’s Mahila Morcha and workers staged a protest in Bengaluru.
Former Chief Minister DV Sadanand Gowda highlighted the alleged failure of the Karnataka government to maintain law and order, condemning its inability to safeguard citizens’ protection.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) intervened, issuing a notice to the state government, seeking a comprehensive report within four weeks regarding the actions taken in response to the Belagavi incident. The NHRC expressed deep concern over the reported incident, emphasizing its grave violation of human rights, particularly the victim’s right to life and dignity.
The NHRC condemned the apparent patriarchal approach demonstrated in the reported incident, emphasizing the state’s obligation to protect vulnerable segments of society, especially women. Notices were sent to the chief secretary and director-general of police, demanding a detailed report on the case’s progress, including the status of the FIR, ongoing investigation, arrests made, and measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
Additionally, the NHRC instructed its DIG, Investigation, to organize an immediate on-the-spot fact-finding inquiry and submit a report within two weeks, aiming to comprehensively assess the situation and propose preventative measures against similar incidents.
