Iran’s Ambassador Applauds India’s Morality and Urges Role in Israel-Gaza Conflict Resolution
Praising India’s Morality and Humanity
Iran’s Ambassador to India, Iraj Elahi, has lauded India’s high moral standards and its potential to play a pivotal role in resolving the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict. Elahi drew a poignant parallel between India’s historical commitment to moral courage and the present situation in Gaza. He reminisced about growing up in Los Angeles, a city that, like Delhi today, faced severe air pollution. Just as his teachers warned him against going outside due to the poor air quality, his daughter received a similar warning while heading to school in Delhi.
India’s Moral Compass on the Global Stage
Elahi emphasized India’s status as a moral and humanitarian beacon on the global stage. He underscored the influence of Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings and his support for the Palestinian cause, deeply ingrained in the collective memory of people worldwide. As India aspires to represent the voice of the Global South, Elahi believes it must address the plight of the Palestinian people.
India’s Opportunity to Advocate for the Global South
The Ambassador argued that the current situation in Gaza presents a unique opportunity for India to extend its support to the Global South’s voice. He expressed concern about the widespread atrocities committed by Israel, asserting that they have peaked in the past three weeks. Israel’s actions, Elahi stated, demonstrate a lack of respect for international law and universal moral values.
Influx of Humanitarian Aid and Ongoing Conflict
India has sent humanitarian aid to Palestine to alleviate the suffering of its people. The aid package, which arrived in Egypt before onward transmission to Palestine, includes life-saving medicines, protective and surgical items for handling emergency medical situations, fluids, and painkillers. Additionally, the disaster relief material encompasses tents, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, basic sanitary utilities, and water purification tablets, weighing approximately 32 tons.
Israel-Gaza Conflict
The ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict escalated following an attack by Hamas on October 7, during which around 2,500 terrorists breached the border into Israel from the Gaza Strip. Israel has characterized its offensive in Gaza as targeting Hamas’ infrastructure with the goal of eliminating the entire terror group while striving to minimize civilian casualties.
