Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel Files Nomination, Exudes Confidence in Congress’s Victory
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel officially filed his nomination on Monday for the upcoming assembly polls in his traditional constituency, Patan, located in Durg district. The 62-year-old CM shared images of the nomination filing process on social media and expressed confidence in the Congress’s continued rule in the state.
Accompanied by Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Charan Das Mahant and State Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu, Bhupesh Baghel took to Twitter, saying, “Name – Bhupesh Baghel. Assembly Constituency – Patan. With the blessings of Chhattisgarh Mahtari (mother Chhattisgarh), today I have filed a nomination as a candidate again from Patan assembly constituency. #fir_se_layenge_Congress (will bring Congress again).”
Before heading to file his nomination, Baghel shared pictures of his wife applying ’tilak’ (a religious mark) on his forehead at their residence in Bhilai. He expressed his gratitude for the support of his constituents and pledged to remain dedicated to serving them.
Patan, a predominantly rural constituency, shares a border with the state capital, Raipur. Baghel has a rich history with the seat, having been elected five times from Patan in 1993, 1998, 2003, 2013, and 2018. In 2008, he faced an electoral setback, losing to BJP’s Vijay Baghel, who also happens to be his nephew.
The opposition BJP has put forward Vijay Baghel, currently serving as the Lok Sabha member from Durg, as their candidate in this assembly seat. Both Bhupesh Baghel and Vijay Baghel hail from the Kurmi community, an influential OBC group in the state, with a significant presence in the constituency.
As the assembly polls draw near, the political landscape in Chhattisgarh promises to be engaging and competitive.
