
Jammu Kashmir Under Orange Alert as Meteorological Department Warns of Heavy Rain, Flash Floods Till July 23
Srinagar, July 21 (VoM News): The Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for parts of Jammu and Kashmir, warning of heavy rainfall, flash floods and rain-induced flooding over the next three days.
MeT Director Mukhtar Ahmad said widespread rainfall has already been recorded across several parts of the Union Territory, particularly along the Pir Panjal range in Jammu division, while many areas of Kashmir also witnessed heavy showers.
He said cloudy weather with intermittent light to moderate rain is expected to continue, with moderate to heavy rainfall likely across Kashmir on Tuesday and Wednesday. South Kashmir and adjoining areas are expected to receive the most intense rainfall, while some parts of Jammu division may also witness heavy showers.

The MeT Department warned that the prevailing weather conditions could trigger flash floods, inundation in low-lying areas, landslides, mudslides and overflowing streams, particularly in hilly and vulnerable regions.
Tourists, transporters and residents have been advised to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas and strictly follow official weather advisories. The department also advised suspension of irrigation activities over the next few days due to the adverse weather conditions.

South Kashmir and adjoining areas, along with parts of North Kashmir, have been placed under an Orange Alert for flood risk, as per MET.
The wet spell is expected to continue until July 23.
