India Dismisses Pakistan’s Kashmir Reference at UN Security Council Meeting: India Rejects Kashmir Reference
In a recent UN Security Council meeting discussing the Israel-Gaza situation, Pakistan’s mention of Kashmir prompted a strong response from India. India’s Deputy Permanent Representative at the UN, Ambassador R. Ravindra, asserted that the reference to Kashmir would not receive a dignified response and would be treated with the contempt it deserves.
Pakistan’s Mention of Kashmir
During the Security Council meeting focused on the Middle East situation, Pakistan’s UN envoy Munir Akram made a reference to Kashmir. Ravindra, addressing this issue, emphasized the integral and inalienable nature of Union Territories within India and labeled such remarks as habitual. He expressed India’s unwillingness to dignify these comments with a response, citing the need to prioritize time and discussions.
US Secretary of State’s Perspective
Antony Blinken, the United States Secretary of State, also contributed to the Security Council meeting. He stressed the unlawfulness and unjustifiability of all acts of terrorism, irrespective of their origin. Blinken emphasized the importance of the right of any nation to defend itself, preventing acts of terror like those carried out by Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based terror organization, or Hamas, which targeted individuals in locations like Mumbai and Kibbutz Beeri.
Blinken urged the Security Council to denounce member states that support, fund, or train terrorist groups like Hamas. His remarks resonated with the Council’s previous affirmations regarding terrorism’s unlawful and unjustifiable nature.
The reference to Lashkar-e-Taiba and the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008 highlighted the global concern over terrorism and the need for international cooperation to address such threats. The Security Council’s role in addressing these issues and promoting peace and security remains crucial.
