Doda, September 11, 2023: The annual Kailash Kund Yatra, a revered pilgrimage deeply rooted in tradition, commenced today in the picturesque town of Bhaderwah, Jammu and Kashmir. This sacred journey originates from the ancient Vasuki Nag temple nestled amidst the stunning landscape of Bhaderwah’s Gatha. Thousands of pilgrims embark on a challenging and arduous 21-kilometer trek to reach the sacred Kailash Kund, located at an altitude of 14,700 feet in the rugged Kailash Mountains Range of Doda district. This spiritual expedition is a testament to the enduring Nag Culture.

Holy Mace and Pilgrim’s Path

The Yatra began with the departure of the “Charri Mubarak” (holy mace) from the centuries-old Vasuki Nag temple in Gatha (Bhaderwah) Doda. Pilgrims follow a path that winds through coniferous forests adorned with pine, fir, and cedar trees. Along the journey, they navigate rolling meadows, steep ascents, and rocky terrain before reaching the plains at the base of Mount Kablas. The Seoz Dhar meadows, known for their lush green grass, provide a peaceful and stunning view, offering respite to weary travelers.

Meticulous Arrangements

Under the vigilant leadership of Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Mahajan, the district administration in Doda has meticulously arranged for the smooth conduct and proper coordination of the Yatra. Security, accommodations, water, electricity, lighting, and firewood have all been diligently provided. This annual pilgrimage not only exemplifies devotion but also showcases the breathtaking natural beauty of the region.

Participation of Authorities

DC Doda Vishesh Mahajan and SSP Doda Abdul Qayoom actively participated in the holy Yatra, demonstrating their commitment to ensuring its success. Their presence added a sense of security during the journey. Moreover, they played a pivotal role in organizing the ‘Langer’ arrangements, providing nourishing meals to the pilgrims and fostering a sense of camaraderie among all participants.

Yatra Schedule

The Kailash Kund Yatra 2023 is scheduled to take place from September 11th to 13th September, following the traditional calendar in North India. This holy journey, with its serene landscapes and sacred rituals, holds profound significance for devotees seeking blessings from the ‘Serpent God’ Vasuki Nag, associated with Lord Shiva.
