For the First Time in 75 Years, Eight Uttarakhand Villages to Receive Road Connectivity
In a significant development, eight villages in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, located near the China border, will finally receive concrete roads, marking a transformative change for the local inhabitants. These villages, hitherto devoid of proper roads since Independence, have faced considerable hardships due to their isolation. The road construction is part of the central government’s Vibrant Village Scheme, with the proposals for these crucial road networks receiving in-principle approval.
Vibrant Village Scheme’s Inclusivity
Nitika Khandelwal, the state coordinator of the Vibrant Village Scheme, confirmed that the central government has granted in-principle approval for these road projects. These initiatives will not only connect the remote villages but also enhance their access to essential services and improve the overall quality of life for the local residents.
Road Construction Details
The state rural development department will oversee the construction of approximately 10.01 km of roads in villages such as Tidang, Seepu, Marcha, 1.025 km in Rongaon, 6.40 km in Panchu Gunth (Ghanghar), 3.325 km in Tola, and 23.20 km in Khimling. Additionally, Hira Ghumari village, situated within forest limits and requested by the Indo Tibetan Border Police, is also on the list for road construction.
Comprehensive Plan for Border Tourism
Uttarakhand Rural Development and Migration Prevention Commission is actively working on an all-encompassing plan to promote border tourism in the state. According to the vice-chairman of the commission, S S Negi, there has been an impressive seven percent reverse migration in the last five years, primarily driven by government initiatives and increased awareness.
Uplifting Border Infrastructure
Suffering from hostile living conditions, inadequate infrastructure, and a lack of essential facilities such as healthcare and education, the border districts in Uttarakhand have witnessed mass migrations in the past. The upliftment of border infrastructure is expected to reverse this migration trend, facilitate better troop mobility, and support the movement of machinery. This initiative is a significant step toward revitalizing the region and providing better living conditions for its residents.
