Pulwama man dies after electrocution from low hanging high tension line

Pulwama, July 19 : In a heart-wrenching incident, a young father of two small children died today after being electrocuted by a low-hanging High Tension (HT) electric line in the Pulwama district.

Abul Hameed Reshi, a 38-year-old man, lost his life at his Mirbagh orchard in Ratnipora, Pulwama, when he inadvertently came into contact with a dangerously low HT line.

Hameed, the son of the late Ghulam Hassan Reshi, was a devoted father and worked as a driver. The tragic accident has left his family and the local community in deep shock and mourning.

    Incident Details

According to local residents, Hameed was working in his orchard when his tube well pipe touched the low-hanging HT line.

The contact resulted in a fatal electric shock. Despite immediate efforts to save him, Hameed succumbed to his injuries. He was rushed to the Kakpora health center, where medical personnel pronounced him dead upon arrival.

    Allegations of Negligence

The grieving locals have pointed fingers at the Power Development Department (PDD), now known as Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), accusing them of negligence.

They claim that the incident could have been prevented if the PDD had responded to their repeated requests to rectify the dangerously low HT line supplying electricity to Mirbagh.

    Community Outcry

The community members expressed their frustration, stating that they had continually urged PDD authorities to ensure the HT line was at a safe height.

However, their pleas went unheard. “Had the PDD acted on time by increasing the HT height, the incident could have been averted,” one local lamented.

The tragic death of Abul Hameed Reshi underscores the urgent need for the PDD to address infrastructure issues to prevent further loss of life.

This incident has brought to light the critical importance of proper maintenance and prompt action in addressing potential hazards in public utilities to safeguard the lives of citizens.
