As the assembly elections in Rajasthan draw near, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has revealed plans for the state to conduct a caste survey, similar to the one conducted in Bihar. The decision was reached during a core committee meeting of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC) held in Jaipur, attended by key leaders including Sukhjinder Randhawa, Congress in-charge for Rajasthan, RPCC president Govind Singh Dotasra, and others.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot confirmed the state’s intention to carry out a caste survey, aligning with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s vision of proportional representation based on population. Gehlot emphasized that this initiative would help in understanding the composition of various castes, their roles, and employment patterns, facilitating the formulation of targeted schemes and policies.

Gehlot highlighted the diverse population in India, encompassing different religions and castes, each with distinct livelihoods. The caste survey aims to provide the government with valuable insights to tailor development plans accordingly. The move is in line with Rahul Gandhi’s vision and the party’s mandate, furthering the concept of proportionate representation.

During the meeting, discussions were also held on the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) issue and plans for a yatra (political journey) related to it. The ERCP, if granted national project status, would address irrigation and drinking water needs across 13 districts in eastern Rajasthan.

Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra announced that a crucial meeting would be convened on Monday to finalize the dates for the yatra on the ERCP issue. The Congress’ election campaign slogan for the upcoming assembly elections in Rajasthan is expected to be “Kaam Kiya Dil Se, Congress Fir Se.”

The 2023 Rajasthan Legislative Assembly election is anticipated to take place in or before December this year.
