ECP Takes Action: Show-Cause Notice Sent to Daniyal Aziz for CoC Breach
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a show-cause notice to former federal minister Daniyal Aziz, who is contesting as an independent candidate from NA-75 Narowal for the general elections 2024, citing ‘violation’ of the Code of Conduct (CoC). The ECP has scheduled a hearing for February 10, and in the event of Daniyal Aziz’s electoral victory, the notification of his win will be contingent upon the ECP’s final decision.
Reportedly, the District Monitoring Officer’s findings indicate repeated breaches of the code of conduct by Daniyal Aziz. Despite prior notices, he failed to appear before the ECP or provide a response. Consequently, he has been fined Rs50,000 as per the report.
Daniyal Aziz’s decision to contest the 2024 elections as an independent candidate follows his departure from the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) due to internal disagreements. His publicized criticisms of party leadership, including controversial tweets and statements attributing price hikes to Ahsan Iqbal, led to a show-cause notice from the PML-N. This move catapulted Daniyal Aziz into the spotlight, further fueling tensions within the party ranks.
