KPDCL Implements Ban on Nichrome-Coil-Heaters in Kashmir-Valley, Urges Strict Compliance
Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has recently issued a comprehensive directive imposing a complete ban on the acquisition and trade of heating devices utilizing nichrome coils in the Valley.
As per the order, the government had initially imposed a ban in 2018 on the manufacturing, importing, transporting, selling, purchasing, and usage of crude heaters, boilers, and steamers employing nichrome coil technology. The directive emphasized that these devices failed to adhere to the necessary specifications outlined by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) or the International Electro-Technical Commission.
In alignment with the aforementioned government orders, KPDCL applauded the Electric Divisions for their diligent efforts in confiscating a substantial number of these crude heating appliances from consumers. However, the order noted that despite these seizures, consumers often resorted to purchasing new nichrome coil-based devices readily available in the market, leading to continued electricity abuse and undermining the extensive measures taken.
To address this issue and permanently eradicate the availability of nichrome coil-based heaters, boilers, and steamers in the market, KPDCL has instructed all sub-divisional officers to implement the directive. They are tasked with distributing copies of the order among business outlets dealing in electrical equipment items, advising them against procuring and selling any heating gadgets utilizing nichrome coils. Non-compliance with this directive will result in the seizure of such products.
Furthermore, KPDCL has urged concerned parties to approach the district administration to ensure strict adherence to the government’s orders. This initiative aims to curb the prevalence of nichrome coil-based heating devices in the market and promote the use of safer and compliant alternatives.
