54 Injured, 18 Missing After Fire Struck Ras Laffan industrial area of Qatar

Doha, June 22, 2026 [VoM News]: Earlier, sunday atleast 54 people were injured, where 18 others are yet missing after a major explosion and fire struck Ras Laffan industrial area of Qatar, as per the authorities.

The fire incident occurred at the Barzan gas facility as efforts were underway. State-owned QatarEnergy said the blast broke out during the progress of the site, triggering a massive fire.

As the Barzan plant plays a key role in supplying natural gas for domestic electricity generation and water desalination, concerns are mounting due to the facility’s importance, adding the uncertainty to global energy markets.

Amid the shipping concerns in the Strait of Hormuz, dozens of causualties were reoorted, and too would likely increase as emergency teams continued search and operations through the night.
