Pakistan Court Extends Imran Khan’s Judicial Remand in Cipher Case.
Imran Khan’s Remand Extended
In a recent development, a Pakistan special court has decided to extend the judicial remand of former Prime Minister Imran Khan for an additional 14 days in the Cipher case, further delaying any hopes of his early release. This decision comes as a significant blow to Khan, who also serves as the chief of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. His arrest last month stemmed from allegations that he violated the Official Secrets Act by disclosing a confidential cable, also known as a cipher, sent by the country’s embassy in Washington in March of the previous year.
A Repetition of Judicial Remand
This marks the third occasion on which Imran Khan has been remanded to jail. The previous 14-day remand had concluded just today, only for this extension to be imposed. The special court judge, Abual Hasnat Zulqernain, presided over the hearings at the District Jail Attock, where Khan has been detained since his arrest on August 5, following his conviction in the Toshakhana case.

Qureshi’s Remand Extended as Well
In addition to Khan, the court has also extended the remand of former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi for the same duration, as he faces accusations under the same law. It appears that both political figures will remain in judicial custody until October 10 to allow the completion of the ongoing probe into the Cipher case.
High Court’s Directive Remains Unimplemented
Despite the Islamabad High Court’s recent order to transfer Imran Khan to Adiyala jail in Rawalpindi, this directive has not yet been carried out. Earlier, security concerns had prompted authorities to permit the case’s hearings to take place within the jail premises. As the legal proceedings continue to unfold, Imran Khan’s political future remains uncertain, with the extended remand casting a shadow over his political career and the PTI’s prospects in the near future.
