Home Minister Amit Shah vist Jammu on Jan 9
On January 9, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Jammu to assess the security situation in the aftermath of recent incidents, including the Surankote ambush resulting in four soldiers’ deaths and three injuries, along with three custodial deaths on December 21 and 22. This visit follows Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s earlier trip to Jammu on December 27 in response to the Poonch attack. During Singh’s visit, he also met civilians at Rajouri hospital who were reportedly subjected to torture in an army camp on December 22, the day after the Surankote ambush.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Amit Shah will tour forward areas to evaluate ongoing anti-terror operations and is expected to chair a security review meeting in Jammu. Additionally, he is likely to participate in the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra’ program and assess the party’s readiness for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. On January 2, the Home Minister had already conducted a security review meeting in Delhi to address the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Weather permitting, Shah is anticipated to be accompanied by Home Secretary AK Bhalla, top security officials from various paramilitary forces, and senior intelligence agency officials. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Intelligence Bureau Chief Tapan Deka, and Army Chief General Manoj Pande are also expected to accompany the Home Minister. If weather conditions remain favorable, Shah may extend his visit to Rajouri and Poonch districts to evaluate the security scenario in these twin border regions, which have experienced a surge in terror attacks over the past couple of years.
