LG Sinha Inspires Graduates at SKUAST Jammu’s 8th Convocation Ceremony
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha delivered a speech at the 8th Convocation Ceremony of SKUAST Jammu, which took place at Baba Jitto Auditorium today.
A total of 590 students, including 347 female students, received degrees in various subjects during the ceremony.
During his address, Lt Governor Sinha extended his congratulations to the graduating students, faculty, and staff of SKUAST Jammu. He also acknowledged the contributions of researchers and innovators who are actively working towards transforming the University into a center of excellence for Agricultural Science and Technology.
Lt Governor Sinha presented medals to outstanding students and praised the academic achievements of female students. He commended their performance across various subjects, highlighting that out of a total of 11 Gold Medals, 10 were secured by women. He emphasized the growing prominence of young women in the field of Agricultural Science and Technology, emphasizing their role as role models for the younger generation.
Recognizing the vital role women play in agricultural development, Lt Governor Sinha stated that women have been unsung heroes in the field for thousands of years. He expressed hope and confidence in their ability to make groundbreaking discoveries and inventions in agricultural science and technology.
The Lt Governor urged agricultural universities and educational institutions to focus on developing innovative agricultural technologies to enhance the productivity of farmers. He highlighted the importance of adopting an innovative approach to minimize input costs for farmers while maximizing output through efficient growing techniques and technological support.
As Jammu and Kashmir move towards building a modern and sustainable agriculture and allied industry through the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), Lt Governor Sinha emphasized the role of educational institutions like SKUAST in creating cutting-edge technology and methods to revolutionize the food processing sector.
He assured SKUAST Jammu of the full support from the UT Administration in terms of resources and wished the university continued success in its efforts to shape a brighter and prosperous future.
Additionally, Lt Governor Sinha recommended that SKUAST Jammu work on a dedicated project with significant export potential, similar to Tulip’s planting material, to address the agricultural and allied sector’s needs in the country.
Dr. B.N. Tripathi, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST Jammu, presented the university report, highlighting its academic, research, and extension activities. Due to adverse weather conditions and poor visibility, the Vice President of India could not attend the convocation.
To mark the occasion, Lt Governor Sinha planted a tree sapling in the university’s vicinity. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Jugal Kishore Sharma, Member of Parliament; Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Shailendra Kumar, Principal Secretary Agriculture Production Department; Santosh D Vaidya, Principal Secretary Finance Department; Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department; Vice-Chancellors of various Universities, Heads of educational institutions, senior officials, and students and faculty members of SKUAST.
