Punjab Governor Hails BSF’s Role in Safeguarding Borders during Attari Visit
Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit recently visited the Joint Check Post (JCP) Attari and applauded the remarkable dedication and efforts of the Border Security Force (BSF) troops. During his visit, the Governor witnessed the impressive retreat ceremony parade and lauded the BSF India for its pivotal role in securing the nation’s borders.
Welcomed by senior BSF officials including Sanjay Gaur, DIG Amritsar, and Commandant Ajay Mishra, Governor Purohit commended the high spirits and professionalism displayed by BSF troops during the ceremony. The BSF Punjab Frontier shared their appreciation for the Governor’s acknowledgment of the BSF’s tireless work in maintaining border security and ensuring the safety of citizens in the region. The Governor’s presence at the JCP Attari enthused spectators, fostering an atmosphere of patriotism and pride.
Tasked with guarding the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders, the BSF holds a unique position as the sole force in the nation with distinct roles during wartime and peacetime. Renowned for its unwavering commitment, the BSF has consistently fulfilled its duties, contributing to maintaining peace and stability on the border.
The history of the BSF dates back to its inception on December 1, 1965, after Pakistan’s aggression in the Kutch region highlighted the need for a specialized force to secure India’s international borders. Initially raised with 25 battalions, the BSF has expanded over time, adapting to the nation’s security requirements in various regions, including Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, and the Northeast.
Currently, the BSF comprises 192 battalions, including three NDRF units, and seven artillery regiments. Apart from guarding the international borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh, the BSF actively engages in anti-infiltration activities in the Kashmir Valley, counter-insurgency operations in the North East, anti-naxal operations in Odisha and Chhattisgarh, and secures integrated checkposts along the international borders.
Governor Purohit’s visit reaffirms the nation’s gratitude and appreciation for the unwavering dedication and sacrifices made by the BSF in ensuring the safety and security of India’s borders.
