Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport Faces Flight Delays and Cancellations Due to Low Visibility
On Friday, Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi encountered significant disruptions with at least 100 flights experiencing delays and a few being outright canceled due to low visibility conditions. Airlines have urged passengers to stay updated on flight statuses via airline websites before heading to the airport.
Passengers, unaware of the delays upon arrival, were observed sitting on the floors within the airport premises, patiently awaiting updates from the airlines. Fakrool, a native of Rampur in UP, expressed dissatisfaction, stating, “I have been waiting for 12 hours at T-3 in the cold to catch a flight to Sharjah. The airline made no arrangements for passengers in case of delay in such weather.”
Reports from airport sources indicated that visibility on Friday had dropped to 150 meters, categorized as moderate for flight operations. While no diversions were reported until 8 am on Friday, numerous delays persisted due to the adverse weather conditions and other operational factors.
One affected passenger, Kuldeep Singh, expressed his predicament, sharing, “I have a flight to Toronto, and it is delayed. I arrived at the airport in the morning from Punjab, and I am waiting for the update from the airline,” as he waited alongside his family at the IGI airport.
Additionally, long queues of passengers were witnessed at the entry gates of the Terminal, further indicating the extent of disruptions faced by travelers attempting to navigate through the airport amidst the flight delays and cancellations.
