ED Chargesheet Includes Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Land Deal Investigation
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed charges against Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in connection with an alleged land purchase and sale case involving five acres in Haryana.
Alongside her, her husband Robert Vadra’s name also appears in the chargesheet, although neither of them has been labeled as “accused”.
The chargesheet primarily targets CC Thampi, an NRI businessman, and Sumit Chadha, a British national of Indian origin.
Allegations point towards their involvement in aiding fugitive arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari to conceal illicit gains, breaching laws including the Official Secrets Act.
ED’s focus involves transactions between Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and HL Pahwa, a Delhi-based real estate agent, who purportedly facilitated the buying and selling of agricultural land in Faridabad.
Notably, a property in Faridabad’s Amipur village was allegedly purchased in Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s name in April 2006 and subsequently sold back to Pahwa simultaneously.
Similar deals involving land transactions with HL Pahwa are linked to Robert Vadra, indicating the sale and repurchase of substantial land in the same area.
Earlier chargesheets by the ED had mentioned Robert Vadra’s association and business interests with CC Thampi.
Political reactions to these developments have emerged, with Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu indicating the timing of the names surfacing just before Lok Sabha elections.
The Aam Aadmi Party criticized the ED for continual actions against opposition figures, citing discrepancies in the application of legal principles.
Amidst these developments, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s recent organizational shift within the Congress hints at her potential electoral debut, although her role has been restructured without a specific portfolio.
There have been rumors suggesting her potential candidacy, alongside other heavyweight politicians, to contest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency, traditionally perceived as a stronghold for the BJP.
