Mitchell-Starc Sets New IPL Record: KKR Secure Him for Rs 24.75 Crore, Surpassing Pat Cummins’ Previous High
Mitchell Starc has clinched the title of the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after being secured by the Kolkata Knight Riders for a staggering Rs 24.75 crore during the auction in Dubai. This hefty price tag surpassed the previous record held by his teammate Pat Cummins, who was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 20.50 crore.
The auction witnessed an intense bidding war for Starc, with Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals initially leading the charge. However, as the two teams withdrew, Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders escalated the bidding to new heights, surpassing the Rs 20.50 crore spent on Cummins. Eventually, Gujarat Titans bowed out at Rs 24.75 crore, allowing Kolkata Knight Riders to secure Starc at a record-breaking price.
The official IPL Twitter handle announced the historic moment, stating, “The record created not long back is BROKEN! Most expensive player of all time Pat Cummins Mitchell Starc Mitchell Starc is SOLD to #KKR for INR 24.75 Crore.

During his previous stint in the IPL with Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2014-15, Starc managed to secure 34 wickets in 27 matches. Prior to Starc’s record-breaking deal, Cummins had set the bar high as the costliest player in IPL history when Sunrisers Hyderabad acquired him for Rs 20.50 crore at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. This surpassed the previous record held by Sam Curran, who was sold to Punjab Kings for Rs 18.50 crore in 2022.
