As Ganesh Chaturthi 2023 is set to be observed on September 19, 2023, many investors are curious about whether the Indian stock market will be open or closed on that day. For those seeking clarity, here’s some important stock market news: both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain closed on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, in observance of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Ganesh Chaturthi is the only stock market holiday scheduled for September 2023. The next stock market holiday will be on October 2, 2023, for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, followed by the last holiday on August 15, 2023, for Independence Day.
During Ganesh Chaturthi, trading in various segments will be affected. This includes the equity segment, equity derivative segment, SLB (Securities Lending and Borrowing) segment, and even the currency derivative segment. However, trading in the commodity derivatives segment and Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) will have a partial closure. Trading in the commodity derivative segment will be suspended from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM but will resume from 5:00 PM to 11:30 PM.
In total, 15 stock market holidays have been declared for 2023, including Ganesh Chaturthi. After Ganesh Chaturthi, there will be five more holidays remaining in the year: Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti (October 2, 2023), Dussehra (October 24, 2023), Diwali Balipratipada (November 14, 2023), Gurunanak Jayanti (November 27, 2023), and Christmas (December 25, 2023).
Investors who want to check the complete list of stock market holidays for 2023 can visit the BSE website (bseindia.com). To access the list, they can log in to the BSE website, look at the top of the homepage, and click on “Trading Holidays” in the dark blue strip, which is the second option from the top.
