Rescue Operation Launched by SDERF in Indore Amid Heavy Rainfall.
City Grapples with Waterlogging
As heavy rainfall relentlessly batters Indore in Madhya Pradesh, the State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) team has sprung into action to rescue people stranded in waterlogged areas across the city. Since Friday evening, continuous downpours have led to severe waterlogging in various parts of the city, prompting a coordinated response from SDERF teams, police units, district authorities, and municipal corporation teams. Together, they are tirelessly evacuating individuals trapped in settlements located in low-lying areas and along the banks of drains within the city.
Unified Efforts for Rescue
Vinod Osho Gautam, the SDERF district commandant, shared insights into the ongoing rescue operation. He mentioned that SDERF teams, in collaboration with home guards, municipal corporation staff, district officials, and the police, are focusing their efforts on lower-lying areas inundated with water. The mission is to ensure the safe evacuation of residents in distress.
Dedicated SDERF Teams and Boats Deployed
To bolster the rescue operation, a total of four SDERF teams, comprising 32 personnel, have been deployed in the district. Additionally, boats have been dispatched to three locations to facilitate the secure evacuation of individuals stranded in waterlogged areas. In a heartwarming incident, the SDERF team swiftly responded to a distress call about a pregnant woman stuck in the Sanwer area. They reached her location via boat and, with the assistance of a medical team, helped her deliver a healthy son.
Rescue Near Rau River
Further emphasizing the commitment of the SDERF team, they successfully rescued individuals residing in camps situated along the banks of a river in the Rau area. These camp residents had become trapped as the river’s water level surged due to the heavy rainfall. Acting promptly upon receiving information from the district administration, the SDERF team ensured the safe evacuation of 21 people from this area.
Record Rainfall Figures
According to an official from the Indore Meteorological Department, Hiralal Khapedia, this year has witnessed an extraordinary amount of rainfall, totaling over 39 inches by Saturday afternoon. In just a span of 24 hours, between 7 am on Friday and 11 am on Saturday, the city recorded approximately 10 inches of rainfall.
