Senator Chuck Schumer, Democrats Criticise Trump’s $87.6 Billion Iran War Funding Request
Washington, June 25, 2026 [VoM News]: As the White House has sought $87.6 billion in supplemental funding, there seems a narrative building fight one end, following the strong criticism from the Democratic Party too. The most of the proposed spending of the supplimental funding are tied to the US military campaign against Iran.
Jake sherman, the founder of punchbowlnews shared an ‘X’ post stating as, “THE SUPPLEMENTAL IS OUT highlights: $67B for DOD, $11B for farmers, $40M for FBI for “Operation Epic Fury” and other classified programs, $672M for NNSA, $95.5M for DOE for Epic Fury, $36M for Treasury, $600M for GSA, $2B for Coast Guard re Epic Fury, $13M for DHS classified request
$500M for Park Service, $1B for DOL for pensions
$1.5B for State for diplomatic programs,, $300M for embassy security and construction for restoring facilities in Bahrain, Dubai, Karachi, Lahore, Riyadh etc, $1.4B for Ebola, $1B for “modernized Penn Station”
The request includes $67.15 billion for the Pentagon to cover war-related operations, replenish weapons stockpiles and fund classified programmes. The remaining amount is expected to support other government requirements connected to the conflict.
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer reacted over the Sherman’s X post stated as, “President Trump is asking taxpayers to clean up his messes, to the tune of $87.6 billion. After dragging America into a reckless war, he now wants Congress to hand him tens of billions more to paper over the damage — while families are still paying higher prices. We should be lowering costs for the American people, not writing another blank check for Trump.”
Senator Patty Murray said she would examine the request to ensure US troops receive necessary support, but ruled out automatically approving tens of billions of dollars for what she described as a discretionary war, as per Al Jazeera Report.
Representative Pramila Jayapal also rejected the request, and said absolute no.” She accuses Donald Trump for stopping women from voting, and now need $60 billion more for the department of defense.
The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget urged lawmakers to scrutinise the package and offset any new spending through tax increases or spending reductions. The group warned that continued borrowing could further strain federal finances as US debt remains near record levels.
