Fly Jinnah, AirSial Flights Reportedly Crossed Into Indian Airspace Near Amritsar

Fly Jinnah, AirSial Flights Reportedly Crossed Into Indian Airspace Near Amritsar

New Delhi: Atleast three Pakistani commercial aircraft briefly entered Indian airspace on June 12, days before an Air India flight crossed the International Border during a go-around at Amritsar, as per flight-tracking data.. These flights include two Fly Jinnah services from Lahore to Dubai and Lahore to Jeddah, and an AirSial flight operating from Dammam to Lahore. One aircraft reportedly remained in Indian airspace for more than 15 minutes.

Pakistani media attributed the diversions to severe weather and a windstorm in Pakistan’s Punjab province. Aviation sources said air traffic control units in Lahore and Amritsar coordinated during the route changes.

The matter has drawn attention after Air India flight AI479 briefly entered Pakistani airspace on June 22 while attempting to land at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar.

The airline said the aircraft crossed the border at around 9:38 pm IST during a go-around and returned to Indian airspace about a minute later. Flight-tracking records showed the aircraft circling over Amritsar before it abandoned the landing attempt and returned to Delhi.

Air India has launched an internal inquiry into the incident.

India and Pakistan had earlier barred each other’s airlines from using their airspace following heightened tensions after the Pahalgam terror attack last year.
