World Famous Boulevard Road Dal Lake, Srinagar, is set to become the vibrant backdrop for an extraordinary cultural celebration as the Directorate of Handicrafts & Handlooms Kashmir unveils the ‘Autumn Craft Mela.’ This distinctive handicraft and handloom exhibition will be a testament to the exquisite art and crafts of Kashmir, showcasing the region’s rich cultural heritage.

The grand inauguration of this ten-day extravaganza took place at Boulevard Srinagar, graced by the presence of Mahmood Ahmad Shah, Director Handicrafts & Handlooms Kashmir, and Joint Director Handicrafts Kashmir, Mr. Parveez Sajad Ganai. The event also saw the participation of Assistant Director Handicrafts/Handloom, Srinagar, and various other officers and officials.

Towards Global Recognition: GI Certifications for Kashmiri Crafts
In a bid to bolster the region’s cultural identity through handicrafts and handloom, the Directorate is actively pursuing Geographical Indication (GI) certifications. Proposals for GI certifications of seven crafts, including Namdha, Gubba, Crewel, and Chain Stitch Crafts, have already been submitted to the GI Registrar in Chennai. This strategic move aims to enhance the sales of genuine handmade products not only at the regional level but also on the national and global stage.
