PTI Rejects Emergency in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Condemns Reported Arrests of Provincial Leaders
ISLAMABAD, October 11, 2026 [VoM News]: PTI denounces Emergency in KP, condemns reported arrests of provincial leaders in Pakistan.PTI condemns reported arrests of provincial leaders in KP, rejects Emergency in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday strongly rejected the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in KP on the ground that it violated the autonomy of provinces and the democratic will of the people.
PTI chairman Barrisiter Gohar Ali Khan called it a “grave political error” by the federal government and said it was time to settle differences through dialogue.
His party was opposed to giving the terror fighters a land of opportunity but was determined to take steps to stop terrorism without violating the constitutional rights and political opposition, Gohar said.
The party also condemned the arrest of chief minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi and provincial PTI president Junaid Akbar Khan, asking for the release of political detainees.
Former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser denied the measures saying that the recommendations adopted by the Peace Jirga for the security issues should be implemented.
PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram also said that constitution of Pakistan is being violated by the federal government to the name of constitutional federalism.
The reported developments indicate that President Asif Ali Zardari approved of the emergency measures in the wake of the decision by the federal cabinet headed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The reported decision refers to Article 232 and 234 of the Pakistani Constitution which relate to emergency and failure of the constitutional mechanism in a province.
PTI has vowed to contest the measures using constitutional, legal and democratic means.
