
Pakistan Imposes Six-Month Emergency Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PTI Chief Minister Sohail Afridi Reportedly Arrested
ISLAMABAD, October 11, 2026, [VoM News]: In a major development, the Pakistan Govt has imposed a emergency rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday.
Overall, its definitely done due to immense pressure from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led provincial administration as heavy protests and march towards capital city Islamabad has started demanding the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Meanwhile, the Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari approved the decision following recommendations from the federal cabinet, which was chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The Prime Minister cited the deteriorating security conditions and unsuccessful negotiations, and sent rge summary to President Asif Ali Zardari.

As per information available with VoM News, the measures were invoked under Articles 232 and 234 of Pakistan’s Constitution, granting the federal authorities expanded administrative powers over the province.
The Pakistani Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has said the provincial governor would assume administrative responsibilities with an advisory council for an initial six-month period.
Meanwhile, PTI lawmaker Junaid Akbar claimed that Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and the party’s provincial leadership had been arrested.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan condemned the emergency as an undemocratic decision undermining provincial autonomy.
Party spokesperson Zulfikar Bukhari warned that the move could deepen political instability and confrontation.
The latest update came after the demonstrations were held by PTI supporters which are yet going on seeking the Khan’s release after negotiations with the government collapsed on October 4.
The brand Imran Khan has remained imprisoned since August 2023 and faces multiple criminal cases, which he maintains are politically motivated.
Though the pakistani establishment cited the increased militant violence and tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan over cross-border security concerns as the reasons behind the president’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
