Sunni Baluch Cleric Molvi Yousef Gorgij Killed Outside Home in Iran

Tehran, September 16, 2026 [VoM News]: In an another violence incident targeting the Sunni clerics in Iran, a Sunni Baluch cleric Molvi Yousef Gorgij was killed outside his home in Zahedan, as per Iranian state media.

This marks the second reported killing of a Sunni cleric in Iran in less than a week.

As per details available with VoM news, the State-run Mehr News has reported the death of cleric and described Gorgij as a pro-government Sunni cleric.

It has blamed the “Zionist mercenaries” for the killing, without providing the evidence or details about those allegations.

Whereas, some Iranian media outlets separately attributed the attack to Jaish al-Adl, a Sunni Baluch militant group that has previously carried out attacks against Iranian security forces.

However, there was no immediate claim of responsibility for Gorgij’s killing.

Earler, five days ago, a Sunni Kurdish cleric Mamosta Mohammad Nezhati was killed in Iran’s northwestern West Azerbaijan province, adding the concerns in the ongoing voilence against Sunni clerics.

The Iran’s Revolutionary Guards has blamed the “Zionist-American Kurdish separatist groups” for Nezhati’s death, stating the cleric’s previous cooperation with Basij organisations.

So far, the circumstances surrounding Gorgij’s killing remain unclear, and competing claims about responsibility have not been independently established.
