KISHTWAR, AUGUST 26 [VoM News]: District Police Kishtwar has arrested Sonika Parihar, an FMPHW nurse posted at District Hospital Kishtwar, as the sixth accused in the ongoing investigation into the suspicious death of a 15–16-year-old minor girl from the Chatroo area.

The arrest has been made in connection with FIR No. 34/2026 registered at Police Station Chatroo under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Given the seriousness and sensitivity of the case, SSP Kishtwar constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a detailed investigation. During the probe, police said material surfaced concerning the alleged sexual exploitation of the minor, her pregnancy, attempts to terminate the pregnancy and the involvement of multiple persons, including individuals connected with her medical treatment.

Five accused had already been arrested in the case before investigators examined Sonika Parihar’s alleged role. Police said material subsequently surfaced against her during the investigation, leading to her arrest as the sixth accused.

The SIT is continuing its probe into the circumstances surrounding the minor’s death and the alleged role of every person connected with the case. Police said the investigation is being conducted in a thorough, scientific, impartial and evidence-based manner.
