Chatroo Kishtwar Minor Death Case: Three More Arrested, Five Accused Held So Far; SIT Probing All Angles
KISHTWAR, AUGUST 26 [VoM News]: Kishtwar Police on Tuesday arrested three more accused in connection with the suspicious death of a 15–16-year-old minor girl from Chatroo, taking the total number of arrests in FIR No. 34/2026 to five.
According to SSP Kishtwar Naresh Singh-JKPS, Police Station Chatroo received information about the minor’s suspicious death on August 20. As no formal complaint was initially received, inquest proceedings were launched.
Material disclosing cognizable offences subsequently emerged, leading to the registration of FIR No. 34/2026 under Sections 4/6/8/10/17 of the POCSO Act and Sections 61(2)/65(1)/90/91/92 of the BNS. Sections 3(1)(w)(i), 3(2)(v) and 3(2)(va) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act were later added.
SSP Kishtwar constituted an SIT headed by Additional SP Pardeep Singh-JKPS, comprising DySP PC Dachhan Nitish Sharma, SHO Chatroo Inspector Rishi Kumar and other officers.
Police said evidence surfaced against Khalid Hussain, a teacher at Government Middle School Gorinal, where the minor studied, regarding alleged repeated sexual assault and pregnancy. His brother, Tariq Hussain, is also accused of criminal conspiracy and allegedly administering medicines intended to terminate the pregnancy.
During treatment, the girl was taken to PHC Chatroo and later District Hospital Kishtwar. Police arrested Farooq Ahmed, a daily-wage/sweeper employee at the hospital, along with Mohd. Ishaq and Riyaz Ahmed, over alleged criminal conspiracy.
The SIT is conducting a fair, scientific and evidence-based investigation, with further arrests to be made if warranted by evidence.
