New FDA-cleared technologies expand access to functional and quantitative lung analysis at SimonMed locations nationwide, helping physicians better evaluate respiratory symptoms and lung disease.
SCOTTSDALE, Arizona, November 2, 2026: SimonMed, one of the largest outpatient diagnostic imaging and health technology providers in the United States, has announced the clinical launch of two advanced lung imaging technologies, CT:VQ™ and LDAf™, in partnership with global medical technology company 4DMedical.
Available at SimonMed locations nationwide, the technologies expand access to functional and quantitative lung analysis, enabling physicians to gain a more comprehensive understanding of lung health beyond what conventional CT imaging alone can reveal.
As 4DMedical’s first outpatient imaging-group partner, SimonMed is introducing these advanced capabilities into community-based imaging settings, strengthening its commitment to making innovative medical technologies more accessible to physicians and patients.
The announcement coincides with November’s COPD Awareness Month, highlighting the importance of improving the evaluation of respiratory conditions. For patients experiencing persistent shortness of breath, chronic cough or other unexplained respiratory symptoms, identifying the underlying cause can be challenging. The new technologies provide additional information to support clinical assessments and treatment decisions.
“Shortness of breath is a common symptom, but understanding its underlying cause isn’t always straightforward,” said Dr. Sean Raj, Chief Medical Officer and Chief Innovation Officer at SimonMed.
He said the technologies add functional and quantitative insights to chest CT imaging, helping physicians look beyond lung structure to obtain a more detailed picture of lung health and support the evaluation of conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema and asthma.
Both FDA-cleared technologies use specialised software to analyse non-contrast chest CT imaging and provide complementary insights into lung health.
CT:VQ™ maps ventilation and perfusion, showing how air and blood flow through different regions of the lungs. These functions have traditionally been assessed through nuclear medicine scans. However, they can now be evaluated using CT imaging without injected contrast, radioactive tracers or specialised nuclear medicine equipment.
LDAf™ quantifies low-density lung tissue and air trapping, providing additional information to support the evaluation of obstructive lung disease.
Physicians can order either analysis individually or combine both to help evaluate patients experiencing persistent respiratory symptoms, those with abnormal pulmonary function tests, or individuals with known or suspected lung disease.
SimonMed Founder and CEO Dr. John Simon said the company aims to make advanced imaging technologies accessible to more people, helping physicians make informed decisions and patients better understand their health.
He described the partnership with 4DMedical as another example of bringing meaningful innovation into outpatient healthcare.
Dr. Andreas Fouras, Founder and CEO of 4DMedical, said introducing advanced lung imaging technologies requires partners with the vision and technical capabilities to bring them to patients.
He said SimonMed was the right healthcare provider to introduce 4DMedical’s CT:VQ™ and LDAf™ technologies across its outpatient imaging network, giving physicians access to detailed functional and quantitative lung insights while expanding the company’s presence in the US market.
CT:VQ™ and LDAf™ are available through physician orders at SimonMed locations nationwide. Insurance coverage varies by plan, and applicable copayments, coinsurance and deductibles may apply.
