Beijing, July 7 [VoM News]: The toll from killer storms, floods and extreme weather that has struck much of China has risen to fifteen dead, hundreds injured and hundreds of thousands relocated with President Xi Jinping ordering officials to undertake a ‘ all out ‘ rescue and relief effort.

Four people were reported dead and eight others are still missing in China following the arrival of Typhoon Maysak which has cause extreme rain and flooding over Guangxi in the south of the country, as reported by Chinese state media. Over 50,000 people have been relocated and Nanning, the regional capital, has had its flood alert level escalated to the maximum.

CCTV, the state TV broadcaster, broadcast dramatic video footage of the torrential waters of the Yangtze River running through a broken dam of the reservoir, and rescue crews were seen moving in inflatable boats searching for trapped citizens, and emergency shelters being created to house the displaced.

On the other side, in the Hubei central province, thunderstorms, tornadoes and hurricane winds killed 11 people and wounded another 331 victims. One person was missing. Damages included around 4.800 houses, 22 of them falling down entirely.

President Xi Jinping has ordered rescue agencies to “spare no efforts” to ride out the emergency response and protect the residents entrapped.

The floods were so severe, they even caused chaos in the crabs’ home state of Guangxi. Over 200 snakes escaped from a pig farm which was flooded by rising water. Footage of..a flood-stricken city trying to catch what have to be hundreds of escaped snakes..became an instant hit amongst Chinese tabloid websites.

In addition, a landslide in northwestern Gansu province resulted in five fatalities and 12 are still unaccounted for. Rescue personnel were able to save 21 individuals trapped in the debris but five unfortunately lost their lives even after receiving treatment. A fund of 30 million yuan (roughly 4.4 million dollars) has been established to aid with reconstruction and relief activities.

Chinese authorities have indicated that ongoing torrential rains pose a serious risk to storage and flood control works and river courses in China. Heavy rains are predicted to cause levels to rise above warning levels through parts ofGuangXi.

During summer, China often encounters very hot weather, but with the rising of global warming climate change makes more and more extreme weather happen not only in China but all over the world.
