
US to Review Sale of F-35 Jets to Turkey, Trump Suggests Easing Sanctions
Ankara, July 7 [VoM News]: In a significant announcement, US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that Washington will review Turkey’s request to purchase F-35 fighter jets and suggested the possibility of removing sanctions imposed following Ankara’s acquisition of the Russian S-400 missile defense system, according to an AFP report.
During a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, where he arrived for the NATO summit, Trump indicated that discussions will be held on allowing Turkey to rejoin the F-35 program from which it was removed in 2019. “That’s a decision we’re going to make…it’s a great plane, the best plane by far and it’s certainly something we will consider,” Trump remarked.

Regarding the easing of sanctions under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), Trump said, “We’re going to be taking the sanctions off. We don’t want to sanction friends.”
