Oil Tanker Hit by ‘Unknown Projectile’ Near Strait of Hormuz, Fire Breaks Out

MUSCAT, July 7 [VoM News]: An oil tanker caught fire after being struck by an “unknown projectile” off the coast of Oman near the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said.

According to UKMTO, the tanker was travelling southbound when it was hit on its port side, triggering a fire on board. The vessel’s crew managed the situation, and no casualties or environmental damage have been reported, as per AFP report.

The maritime security agency did not identify the source of the projectile or the vessel involved. Authorities are monitoring the incident, while further details are awaited.

Recent security concerns in the region have prompted increased vigilance from international shipping operators and naval forces.
