Maharashtra Rains: Death Toll Rises as IMD Issues Alerts, Mumbai Faces Severe Disruptions
MUMBAI, July 7 [VoM News]: Relentless monsoon rains continued to batter Maharashtra on Monday, disrupting normal life across Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Pune, Nashik and the Konkan region, with rain-related incidents claiming at least 13 lives and damaging nearly 100 houses.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Mumbai, Kolhapur, Satara, Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri, while warning of heavy rainfall, strong winds and the possibility of waterlogging in several parts of the state. Authorities have also warned of a possible cloudburst in the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar region.
Mumbai and its suburbs witnessed widespread flooding, traffic disruptions and waterlogging after receiving over 300 mm of rainfall in the past two days.

As a precaution, all schools and colleges in Mumbai have been ordered to remain closed on Tuesday. In Pune district, Lonavala recorded around 900 mm of rainfall, its highest in 16 years, while authorities reported 22 landslides and the closure of several roads.
Traffic has, however, resumed on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway link road after clearance operations. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has deployed emergency teams across vulnerable locations and advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from damaged structures and follow official weather advisories.
Meanwhile, rising rainfall has significantly improved water storage in Mumbai’s reservoirs, providing relief to the city’s water supply despite the widespread disruption.
