5 Killed, 1 Critically Injured in SUV-Truck Collision in Maihar Madhya Pradesh

Maihar, July 7 [VoM News]: Five people died and one person was critically injured after a high-speed SUV hit the back of a truck on National Highway-30 in Maihar district of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday morning, police said.

The accident took place at about 2 am near Rigra village, under the Nadan Dehat police station area, when the Mahindra XUV700 vehicle, carrying six young men, slammed into a truck moving ahead. The impact mangled the SUV and trapped all the occupants inside.

Police personnel, highway patrol teams andDial-112 personnel conducted a rescue operation and recovered the bodies of five persons from the vehicle. One person, who survived with serious injuries, was rushed to the Civil Hospital at Amarpatan before he was referred to the District Hospital at Satna for higher treatment.

The deceased were identified as Ankur Patel (40), Mridul Patel (32), Vijay Patel (30), Harishankar Patel (25) and Shiva Patel (23). While four of them were from Tanaja village in Maihar district, Shiva Patel was a resident of Narora village. The injured survivor is Om Patel.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the group was returning after attending a birthday party of Manoj Patel, Vice-President of the Amarpatan Janpad Panchayat. Police sources said all five deceased belonged to families of former Independent MLA Lalji Bhai Patel and late Congress MLA Mathura Patel.

Officials suspect that speeding and loss of control of the vehicle were the main reasons behind the collision, and further investigations are underway.

Station House Officer (SHO) Panchraj Singh said that a case had been registered and a probe was on. The bodies of the deceased were sent to the Maihar Civil Hospital for post-mortem and traffic on the highway, which was disrupted briefly after the crash, was restored.
