Senior Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan to move Madhya Pradesh High Court challenging her RS nomination rejection
BHOPAL, July 6 [VoM News]: Senior Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan will challenge the rejection of her Rajya Sabha nomination in the Madhya Pradesh High Court, maintaining that the Election Commission was not on legally firm footing when it made the decision. Weeks after her nomination was rejected, Natarajan said that she made no mistake and none of her partymen or legal experts who made arrangements for it made any error either.
The Returning Officer wrongly cited the non-disclosure of a pending case in which she is involved as grounds for rejecting her candidature. But she pointed out that such details are not to be submitted according to Form-26.
“There is no lapse from the side of the Congress leadership,” Natarajan said, rejecting the claim that it was responsible for the rejection. Experienced legal practitioners had been engaged in preparing her papers. It was to cover up the EC’s “wrongdoing” that the story about the Congress’s fault was being spun.

She claimed that the EC had set a different standard for other candidates, citing Rajya Sabha candidate Parimal Nathwani who, according to her, was allowed some time to correct the defects in his nomination papers.
The Congress stated that it would file an election petition within the stipulated time and pursue legal recourse after the issue reached both the Election Commission and the Supreme Court previously.
However, the BJP refuted her allegations. “The rejection of her nomination was due to divisions within the Congress ranks and it is the fault of Congress members, not the Election Commission,” alleged BJP spokesperson Ajay Yadav.
