Union Minister V. Muraleedharan Meets Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth
In an official visit to Mauritius, Union Minister of State for External Affairs, V. Muraleedharan, met with Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth in Port Louis. During the meeting, he expressed gratitude to Mauritius for its active participation in G20 meetings as a special guest. He conveyed greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Mauritian Prime Minister.
India-Mauritius: Strengthening Diplomatic Ties
V. Muraleedharan represented India at the 189th Anniversary ceremony of the arrival of Indentured Laborers in Mauritius. He paid tribute to the resilient forefathers who played a significant role in shaping Mauritius’ destiny and maintaining their close bonds with India. The arrival of the first batch of Indian indentured workers in Mauritius on November 2, 1834, is commemorated in Mauritius as ‘Aapravasi Diwas.’
During the event, Muraleedharan launched a joint commemorative stamp to mark the 75th Anniversary of Diplomatic relations between India and Mauritius. The gesture symbolizes the long-standing and friendly relations between the two countries.
Mauritius holds a special place in India’s diplomatic priorities, as it is a key maritime neighbor in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The relationship is in line with India’s vision of ‘SAGAR’ (Security and Growth for All in the Region).
The historical, demographic, and cultural ties between India and Mauritius form the foundation of their special partnership. India has maintained close relations with Mauritius due to the significant population of Indian-origin people, comprising nearly 70% of the island’s population of 1.2 million.
This visit by V. Muraleedharan reinforces the deep-rooted cultural and historical legacy shared by India and Mauritius, further solidifying their special partnership. .Union Minister V. Muraleedharan Meets Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth
