Union Minister Athawale Deems Rahul Gandhi’s Yatra as Bharat Todo Yatra
Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, chief of the Republican Party of India (Athawale), criticized Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, terming it as “Bharat Todo Yatra” or Break India Yatra. He asserted that Rahul Gandhi’s yatra is more of a political drama and unnecessary, stating that the country, united by BR Ambedkar’s constitution, cannot be broken. Athawale emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others are committed to the country’s unity.
Political Drama and Lack of Congress Benefit
Ramdas Athawale claimed that the Bharat Jodo Yatra is merely political drama and won’t yield any political advantage for the Congress party. He argued that during their time in power, the Congress did not focus on uniting the country or ensuring justice for the people. Thus, the yatra is seen as a futile exercise in Athawale’s perspective.
Denial of Permission in West Bengal
Meanwhile, West Bengal Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury alleged that the administration in Siliguri denied permission for a “small meeting” during the ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi. He highlighted challenges faced by the yatra in various states, accusing authorities of obstructing its progress.
Conciliatory Tone from Rahul Gandhi
Rahul Gandhi, addressing the Bengal leg of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, struck a conciliatory tone and emphasized the yatra’s inclusivity, despite Mamata Banerjee’s decision to go solo in the Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal. Rahul Gandhi aims to foster national unity through the yatra, focusing on justice for all.
