Trading Halted: Stock Market Closure on January 22, 2024, Due to Ayodhya Ram Mandir Ceremony
Maharashtra Declares Public Holiday; Trading Suspended at BSE and NSE
In light of the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony at Ayodhya Ram Mandir, the Maharashtra State Government has declared a public holiday on Monday, January 22, 2024. Consequently, both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Exchange (NSE) have announced the suspension of trading activities for the day. The closure affects the Equity Segment, Equity Derivative Segment, and SLB Segment.
Trading Segment Status
- Currency Derivatives Segment: Trading remains suspended.
- Commodity Derivatives Segment and EGR Segment: Morning session suspended (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM), resumes in the evening at 5:00 PM.
Official Notifications
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) issued a press release confirming the trading holiday and cited the declaration under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, by the Government of Maharashtra.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) also acknowledged the public holiday, highlighting its impact on transactions and settlements in various financial markets, postponing them to the next working day, January 23, 2024.

This week will witness a truncated schedule due to Republic Day, with the stock market closed on January 26, 2024 (Friday). In summary, there will be only three trading sessions this week, spanning from Tuesday to Thursday.
