Surprisingly, Expelled Trinamool Rebel Ritabrata Banerjee Becomes Leader of Opposition in West Bengal
WEST BENGAL, JUNE 03, 2026 [VoM News]: A major twist took place within the All India Trinamool Congress after Ritabrata Banerjee was recognised and appointed as the new Leader of Opposition in West Bengal. The rebel leader was recognised by West Bengal Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose.
The official opposition office room at the State Assembly was also handed over to Banerjee by the Speaker.

Earlier, Ritabrata Banerjee was expelled from the party and later claimed support from 59 out of the party’s 80 MLAs. He also submitted a letter asserting that his faction represented the “real” Trinamool Congress.
In a surprising twist, Ritabrata Banerjee proposed Mamata Banerjee as the chief advisor of the opposition bloc and ruled out any role for Abhishek Banerjee in the new arrangement.
