In anticipation of the Uttarakhand Assembly session commencing on February 5, the district administration has enforced Section 144 within a 300-meter radius around the Assembly premises. Crucial Assembly Session to Discuss Uniform Civil Code (UCC)

The upcoming assembly session gains significance as it will deliberate on the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami chaired a cabinet meeting on Saturday at the State Secretariat to discuss the draft report on the UCC. The UCC Bill is slated to be presented in the Assembly on February 6 after receiving cabinet approval.

Uniform Civil Code Awaits State-Level Approval

The UCC drafting committee, led by retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai, submitted the draft report to Chief Minister Dhami on Friday. The proposed UCC aims to establish uniform civil laws applicable to all communities in Uttarakhand. CM Dhami emphasized that the UCC aligns with the BJP’s resolution and will contribute to the vision of ‘Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat.’

The UCC, encompassing uniform regulations for marriage, divorce, land, property, and inheritance, irrespective of religious affiliations, is a significant promise made by the BJP during the 2022 Assembly polls. The successful passage of the UCC Bill will mark a substantial fulfillment of this commitment to the people of Uttarakhand.
