As the Rajasthan Assembly elections draw near, enforcement agencies have been on high alert, resulting in an impressive Rs 244 crore in cash seizures over the past 15 days, according to officials. A joint effort by the police, excise, income tax, and other enforcement agencies has set a “new record” in the confiscation of illegal cash, liquor, drugs, gold, silver, and more. In total, the value of seizures in 2023 has surpassed an astonishing Rs 1,000 crore.
A Threefold Increase in Seizures
Officials note a substantial increase in seizure values this year, marking a threefold rise compared to previous years. In 2021, the total seizure amounted to Rs 322 crore, followed by Rs 347 crore in 2022. However, in 2023, the total has already reached an impressive Rs 1,021 crore.
Coordinated Efforts and Impressive Results
Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Gupta revealed that since June, the election commission has been working closely with all enforcement agencies. This coordinated effort has led to the confiscation of cash and other materials worth Rs 648 crore. In the most recent 15-day period, from October 9 onwards, the joint efforts have resulted in the seizure of cash and materials valued at Rs 244 crore.
Tribunal Formed toJKDFP’s Unlawful Status
Gupta further detailed the breakdown of the seizures, which includes Rs 39.30 crore in cash seized by police, the Income Tax Department, and other agencies. The Excise Department, police, and other agencies confiscated over 10.60 lakh liters of illicit liquor valued at Rs 20.12 crore. Additionally, the Narcotics Control Bureau, police, and other agencies seized drugs and psychotropic substances worth Rs 46.76 crore. Gold, silver, and other precious metals valued at Rs 30.40 crore were seized by the police, Income Tax Department, and Customs Department.
Furthermore, various agencies have confiscated freebies and other items worth Rs 84.22 crore. This rigorous enforcement and impressive cooperation between agencies indicate the commitment to maintaining the integrity of the upcoming elections.
