Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Proposes MSP for 25 Kharif Crops
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has submitted a proposal to the central government for the determination of the minimum support price (MSP) for 25 kharif crops for the 2024 season in the state. The proposal includes a demand for a paddy price of Rs. 3,284 per quintal for the next season.
The Punjab government’s proposal specifies MSP demands for various crops:
- Paddy: Rs. 3,284 per quintal
- Maize: Rs. 2,975 per quintal
- Cotton: Rs. 10,767 per quintal
- Moong: Rs. 11,555 per quintal
- Arhar: Rs. 9,450 per quintal
- Groundnut: Rs. 8,610 per quintal
Earlier, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced an increase of Rs. 11 in the minimum support price of sugarcane, responding to protests by farmers demanding an increase. The approved increase raised the state-agreed price of sugarcane from Rs. 380 to Rs. 391 per quintal in Punjab.
In addition to agricultural matters, Chief Minister Mann dedicated 14 new ultra-modern libraries in Sangrur districts, constructed at a cost of Rs. 4.62 crore. He emphasized the role of these libraries in promoting reading habits among the state’s youth. The Chief Minister also inaugurated a Weight Lifting center and an Astro Turf in the War Heroes stadium.
Bhagwant Mann visited the home of Havildar Jaspal Singh, a soldier killed in the line of duty, and handed over a cheque of Rs. 1 crore to his family as a mark of respect. The Chief Minister expressed gratitude for the sacrifice made by Havildar Jaspal Singh in the service of the nation.
Furthermore, on January 9, Chief Minister Mann handed over appointment letters to 520 newly recruited Clerks cum Data Entry Operators in the Punjab State Cooperative Bank. He assured that the government’s efforts to provide employment opportunities for the youth would continue, with an additional 590 job letters scheduled to be given on January 18.
